Glitter varnish

also glitter paint, glitter lacquer, mica

Are there concerns with glitter paint to a UV-curing lacquer, the polyester particles, so-called "Glitter", added. Mainly used to silver, gold and Iris Glitter.

Technical background

The glitter particles have a size between 50 microns and 400 microns and reflect depending on their color, quantity and size of the light. To reach a certain thickness and an even application of the particles, the glitter paint is applied by screen printing. There is no special equipment required of the printing press, because this procedure is not performed inline.

Effect

These coatings are used not only to sparkle. Through transparent particles is also an increase in the underlying color can be achieved. Also, the brightness of the background color is very crucial. Through a dark background can still increase the glittering effect. On a bright area, take the glitter particles perceive as dark spots.

Application possibilities

The glitter paints are best process on coated and glossy papers. But also films of PVC or similar plastics such Priplak(special form of polypropylene/PP) and cardboard boxes can be printed with it. The paint wears on easily, therefore a higher basis weight in the selection of materials to recommend.

Limitations

With a coarse glitter paint can be no fine lines or sharp edges print. The more detailed the design, the finer the glitter must be selected. For uncoated papers before a test print should be made, as they for this type of finishing are poorly suited. Particular caution is advised when further processing. A high layer transfer the stack for cutting or stamping must be kept low, since otherwise imprints arise. Generally you should only be printed on one side. Also full bleed prints should be avoided, as it may come in trimming else chipping. In addition, no paint in the areas of utilization, cutting and creasing rules should be. A subsequent bonding or printing is not possible.

Costs

The price depends on the type and size of the particles. Of course presentation and circulation play a major role. In general, the costs for this process are located in the middle price sector.
